Content creation? Oh, my word!

Every writer/author has a website these days. So, I knew I had to make one too. Not because everyone else has one but because of the following reasons:

1)             It helps people understand what I do.

I have had many interesting reactions from people when I tell them I am a writer. Some go, ‘oh which book,’ while others go, ‘oh which newspaper’; some others smirk knowingly and think ‘poor jobless idiot,’ etcetera, etcetera.

2)             It brings exposure—hopefully of the good kind.

It is the best way to show my skill because I have been ghostwriting all these years. This means that after all these years of making a living writing, I don’t have a single byline to show for it.

As I went about making a website, I had to figure out so many things, such as colors, fonts, tags, names (for the site and its pages), content, images, forms, links, metadata… the list is endless.

Those of you who have done this on your own would understand the amount of blood, sweat, and tears that goes into it. Those of you who have engaged the services of a web designer (ah, you lucky ones!) — maybe not so much.

I had created a website a few years ago without knowing anything about it. It was relatively easy because I was doing it just for fun. Ignorance was truly bliss. This time, I am much more serious and deliberate about it.

For instance, when it came to choosing a Title, I vacillated between so many versions that one part of me feared that I would never launch the site and the site address would forever lead to the ‘Coming Soon’ page.

The current one ‘The Content Creator’ is the result of many a sleep-deprived night. As soon as I launched the site (on October 1), I was beset with doubts.

What does content mean? What comes under its purview? I make no videos or podcasts! What if someone thinks I do?

The sane, calm part of my mind (I do have one, thank you) said, ‘I can explain when they ask me’.

I can tell them that I write and edit content. I create matching images or suggest suitable ones from image repositories. I also create infographics and PowerPoint presentations.

So, here it is—the not-so-shiny new Content Creator website. If nothing else, I can guarantee that you will be entertained as I stumble through all the ups and downs in this journey. Maybe some of you might consider giving me work too? Let’s see!

P.S.: I had wanted to start this blog off with something that provided value to you, such as a well-researched 1000 words on ‘content creation’ or ‘the writing process’ or some such worthy topic. But then, where’s the fun in that, eh?
